Burlington's City Council has taken steps toward allowing non-citizens to vote. The move would require the state legislature to approve. If it goes through, this would allow former refugees to have a greater say in what happens in the community. For more details, check this link.
Krishna Bhandari, Niaza Semiç and Son Do attended the Language Access & Communication Expo on Sept. 28 at UVM. The UVM Medical Center began hosting this event as part of its work to improve the experience of patients and their families, many of whom do not speak English as their first language. The hospital offers ASL interpreters for Deaf, hard of hearing and DeafBlind patients and their companions, as well as spoken language interpreters for patients who need interpretation.
